Unveiled at Baselworld 2019, it represented a striking departure for a manufacture renowned for restraint — a fully gem-set Daytona whose dial evokes the markings and gaze of a tiger through an intricate interplay of diamonds, black lacquer, and champagne gold. Diamonds highlight the shape of the watch, from the crown guards to the clasp on the bracelet. Reserved for the most expressive end of Rolex's catalog, the reference appeals to collectors drawn to the rare convergence of the legendary chronograph with overtly avant-garde, high-jewelry execution, distinguished by more than two hundred hand-selected stones across the case, dial, and bracelet. The 40mm case in 18-karat yellow gold features a bezel set with 36 trapeze-cut diamonds, with a further 56 brilliant-cut diamonds adorning the lugs and crown guards. The diamond-paved dial forms a tiger-stripe motif in black lacquer, accented by champagne gold subdials with black surrounds and applied gold Arabic numerals.
